Haunted Mansion Wedding Inspiration: Gothic Romance in Santa Barbara
Some wedding inspiration begins with a color palette. This one began with a shared love of Disney’s Haunted Mansion, a little gothic romance, and the freedom to create something wonderfully unconventional.
The spook-tacular couple!
In August 2026, I joined Jill of Fantastical Adventures and a talented vendor team at the Unitarian Society of Santa Barbara for a Haunted Mansion inspired styled wedding shoot. Our vision was elegant and eerie, with textured purple flowers, rich black details, and an atmosphere that felt romantic with just enough mystery.
Jill, a themed wedding planner and fellow Disney lover, dreamed up the concept and let me run wild with the floral design. For me, that meant looking beyond the familiar interiors of the attraction and imagining the grounds outside: hanging Spanish moss, weathered tombstones, and that delicious anticipation as you approach the mansion.
The Ceremony
From Haunted Mansion Gardens to Wedding Flowers
The Haunted Mansion’s iconic purple and black wallpaper helped inspire the palette, but the outdoor atmosphere guided my floral choices.
I wanted the arrangements to feel a little overgrown, full of movement, and interesting enough to invite a closer look. Draping Spanish moss brought that Southern haunted estate feeling, while feathery troll grass and dried greenery created a wispy foundation for the purple flowers.
Texture is one of my favorite parts of floral design. It changes how an arrangement feels, giving your eye something new to discover from every angle. Here, it helped carry the theme through the flowers themselves.
Against the black styling, tints, tones, and shades of purple brought depth and romance. Roses, clematis, cotinus, agonis, chocolate Queen Anne’s lace, allium, and calla lilies offered a mix of shapes and textures.
I also incorporated sunflower centers. Their texture and spindly green stems remind me of something almost carnivorous, a slightly unexpected botanical detail that felt perfectly at home in this design.
The Couple
A Ghostly Little Boutonnière
For this shoot, I created a bouquet, boutonnière, centerpieces, ceremony floral clouds, and flowers for the cake table. But the piece I keep coming back to is the boutonnière.
There was so much texture in that small design, especially the feathery, ghostly wisps of troll grass. It captured the mood of the shoot in miniature: unusual, romantic, and just a little otherworldly.
Small floral pieces deserve that kind of attention. A boutonnière can have its own personality while still feeling connected to the larger wedding design.

Stained Glass and Ceremony Floral Clouds
Inside the Unitarian Society of Santa Barbara, beautiful stained glass gave the ceremony an ethereal glow. The setting added another layer to the gothic romance, surrounding the floral clouds with color and atmosphere.
After the ceremony, those floral clouds were repurposed for the sweetheart table in the courtyard reception. I loved seeing the same designs take on a different role as the celebration moved outdoors.
Repurposing flowers is something worth discussing during the design process. When placement and logistics allow, a statement arrangement can become part of more than one meaningful setting throughout the day.
Just Married
Black Velvet, Candlelight, and Purple Florals
The reception styling gave the purple flowers a rich backdrop.
Black velvet tablecloths from Luxe Linen, black candles from So Cal Candle Rentals, and a black and purple cake from Crush Cakes carried the palette throughout the courtyard. The couple’s black outfits brought the same mood to the fashion, beautifully worn by models Jasmin and Lauren of JaxLo Model Co, with makeup by Pacheco Beauty.
Each choice contributed to the overall atmosphere. The velvet added softness, the candles reinforced the romance, and the flowers brought movement and color.
Allie Dearie Photography captured the shoot, with Penny Arcade Films creating content alongside the team.

Your Wedding Should Feel Like You
One reason I love styled shoots is that they give me room to explore and give future clients a way to see what’s possible.
Couples often tell me they appreciate being able to bring me an idea and trust me to run with it. A shoot like this shows how that process can extend beyond traditional wedding inspiration. A favorite attraction, a gothic aesthetic, or an unusual color palette can become the starting point for something personal and beautiful.
My advice to couples is to be true to yourselves. Let your wedding reflect your interests, your personalities, and the things you love. Those are the details that will still mean something to you years from now.
To me, that is what makes a wedding timeless.
Any theme can feel elegant and tasteful with the right vendor team working together. The care is in how we interpret it: the flowers we choose, the textures we combine, and the details we carry throughout the celebration.
If this sounds like you, if you have an unconventional idea and want flowers that feel personal, expressive, and thoughtfully designed then please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’d love to hear what you’re imagining.
